Aspirin Use Counseling
Why is it important for your doctor to talk to you about using aspirin if you are at risk for heart problems?
If your doctor has told you that you are at risk for a heart problem, taking aspirin can help lower your chance of a heart attack or stroke.
What should your doctor tell you about aspirin use?
If you are at risk for heart problems, your doctor should talk with you about the benefits of using aspirin. Aspirin use can be an easy and low cost way to lower your chance of a heart attack or stroke. Your doctor should also talk with you about the possible harmful side effects of regular aspirin use, such as internal bleeding.
What do the scores mean?
The scores show how well each HMO did to make sure women (ages 55-79) and men (ages 45-79), who are at risk for heart problems, had their doctor or another provider talk with them about the pros and cons of taking aspirin as part of their heart care.
This score is based on a survey of a sample of HMO members in 2011.
