Getting Appointments and Care Quickly
2023-24 Edition
Why is it important to be able to get care quickly?
Getting care when you need it is important. For regular check-ups, you need to be able to get an appointment when you need it. If you are ill or injured you need to be seen quickly.
What should health plans do to help you get care quickly?
Highly rated plans have appointment systems that help make sure you get the care you need when you need it. HMOs and PPOs in California have time requirements for making appointments for their patients whether it is for routine or urgent care.
What do the stars mean?
The scores show the percentage of health plan members who highly rated their HMO or PPO on how quickly they got care and service from their doctors and office staff. A higher score means more members said they were getting the right care at the right time.
The scores are based on information from a survey of a sample of at least 100 health plan members in 2022.
