Why is behavioral and mental health care important?

Behavioral and mental health is an important part of quality health care. If you have major depression, highly rated HMOs and PPOs make sure that you can see a doctor or mental health provider quickly and regularly and get the right medications. If you have been hospitalized for a mental illness, it is important that you receive follow-up care with your doctor or a mental health provider. Or if you have problems with drug or alcohol dependence, highly rated health plans also see that you stay in follow up treatment.

What do the scores mean?

The stars tell you how successful each plan was at helping members get the behavioral and mental health care they needed. More stars are better.
