Why is it important to be involved in making decisions about prescription medications with your doctor?
Working together with your doctor to choose a treatment option that works best for you and your lifestyle is important. This may include choosing the right medication or in some cases, selecting other treatment options, such as physical therapy, changes in diet or physical activity.
How can doctors involve you in making decisions?
Your doctor should talk with you about your treatment choices and the pros and cons of each medication. You should share your preferences with your doctor and ask questions to understand each medicine and its benefits and side effects. Together, you and your doctor can decide the medication, if needed, that best fits your needs.
What do the stars mean?
The scores show how well each health plan does at receiving feedback from members that their doctor talked with them about the pros and cons of their prescription medicine options and asked which choice best fit the patient’s needs. The higher score means more patients said their doctors shared decision making with them.
The scores are based on information from a survey of a sample of at least 100 HMO members in 2015.
